Project overview
Madeira is a lesser-known but highly versatile cocktail base that is often overlooked outside of certain circles. Our task was to bring credibility to the fortified wine category and show the masses its potential as more than just a seasonal sipper. To do this, in 2022 we recruited some of the best bartenders in the business and developed innovative serves that highlighted the versatility of Madeira. From the Funchal Fashioned, a blend of fat-washed Cognac, Demerara, and Madeira, to the Negronaldo, (a twist on the classic Negroni inspired by Madeira's second-most famous export), we created a range of unique and memorable cocktails. Our efforts were a decisive success, and even being invited to present to the President of Madeira at their next major local function. Off the back of this success, we were asked to put together a trade show the following year, this time including the inaugural running of the ‘Madeira Masters Cocktail Competition’ – a bartending competition that saw cocktail makers from 6 of London’s leading bars compete for the appealing prize… A weekend for two in Madeira. Scotch Creatives’ bespoke cocktails contributions from 2023 include the ‘Dairy Milk Old Fashioned’ & ‘My Mind on Madeira & Madeira on My Mind’ – a blend of Blandy’s Duke of Sussex, Dry Gin, Apple, Elderflower & Spearmint. We are proud to have helped bring Madeira into the spotlight and showcase its potential as a wonderful cocktail base.
